Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has assured that the metro rail will start from next Sunday. Meanwhile, the metro rail employees who are on strike have joined the work.
On Tuesday (August 20), Road Transport and Highways Department Senior Secretary Ehchanul Haque visited Secretariat Metrorail Station. He directed to take necessary measures regarding metro rail movement. At that time, the senior officials of the Ministry including the Managing Director of Metrorail MAN Siddique were present.
Earlier on Sunday, road transport and bridge advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan assured to launch the metro rail within seven days.
In a press release signed by DMTCL Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rauf on August 15, it was said that the government has given instructions to start the metro within 7 days after completing the necessary technical tests for metro rail operation on August 11. But due to unavoidable reasons the necessary technical tests could not be started yet.
The notification also said that after the technical tests and non-passenger operation tests, the rest of the 14 stations except Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations will be re-opened. In this context, it is not possible to reopen the Metrorail within the scheduled time as per earlier plan.
On August 11, Managing Director of DMTCL MAN Chiddik said that it may take a maximum of seven days for the metro rail to run with passengers. But there is a possibility that it will be launched even earlier. After completing some security procedures, the metro rail will start with passengers.
