Road blockade demanding reinstatement of ex-mayor in Kaliakore

Students and locals protested by blocking the road in Chandra area of ​​Dhaka-Tangail highway demanding the reinstatement of ex-mayor of Gazipur's Kaliakoi municipality, BNP executive committee member Mojibur Rahman.

The protest started on Wednesday (August 21) morning. The blockade caused severe traffic jams on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Passengers and drivers suffered due to this.

The agitator said that for 20 years, Mojibur Rahman served as the mayor of Kaliakoi municipality. During this time he made extensive development in the municipal area. During the period of the Awami League government, there was controversy over the vote throughout the country, but he was elected again and again due to the unwavering support of the local people and the presence of voters. It has different acceptance among people of all groups and persuasions. In this situation, the common people cannot accept his removal.

At that time, business leader Shah Ershad Fakir moderated the protest rally – General Secretary of Municipal BNP Haji Riaz Uddin, Joint General Secretary Saiz Uddin, Organizing Secretary Harun Or Rashid, Youth Dal Member Secretary Amjad Hossain and others.

Earlier in the morning, students and local residents took part in the rally from different areas of the upazila.
