Sonali bank robbery, manager kidnapped


The Kuki Chin National Front (KNF), a separatist armed group of the hills, has been accused of looting the Sonali Bank in Ruma, Bandarban. Terrorists looted Tk 1 crore 59 lakh and 14 weapons of Ansar members. At that time, the manager of the bank, Nezam Uddin, was kidnapped.

Since the incident, the army and police have beefed up security in the area. This incident happened on Tuesday (April 2) night. Ruma Upazila Executive Officer (Acting UNO) Md Didarul Alam confirmed the matter.

According to local sources, the employees of Ruma Upazila branch of Sonali Bank went to offer prayers shortly after Iftar on Tuesday. At that time, 4 members of Ansar were guarding the bank. Around 8:30 pm, around 60-70 armed men attacked the bank. First they took away the weapons of the Ansar members who were guarding the bank and tied them up. Then they entered the bank and broke the locker and looted the money.

Locals said that 40-50 armed men were standing guard outside while looting money from the bank.

Afzal Karim, managing director of Sonali Bank, said that terrorists attacked the Ruma branch at around 9 pm. The manager has not been traced since the incident. I don't know exactly how much money the terrorists looted by breaking the vault.

Chairman of Ruma Sadar Union Parishad, Shaibong Marma said, the terrorists looted the money of the bank after the officers of Sonali Bank went to pray. I heard that there were 60-70 armed men at that time.

Ruma police station OC Mohammad Shahjahan said, we are working to identify those involved in this incident. The senior officers of the bank can actually say how much money has been looted from the bank. The army and police have beefed up security since the incident.

When asked whether the bank's branch manager was abducted by terrorists or not, he said that the investigation is underway.

As additional executive officer of Ruma upazila, Aceland Md. Didarul Alam said that armed terrorists have looted money along with 4 weapons of Ansar.
