'The motive behind MP Anna's murder is still unknown'

The mastermind behind the assassination of MP Anwarul Azim Anna is out of the country. In this situation, the police is yet to know the 'motive' of this murder.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman.

In response to the questions of the journalists, he said that neither the police of Bangladesh nor the police of India could find out why he was killed, i.e. what is the motive of this murder. Because the main planner (Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen) who is now out of the country, he could not be arrested. Only if he is arrested will it be possible to know the motive of this murder.

The DMP Commissioner also said that since he (Anar) was our Member of Parliament, his matter will be treated with utmost importance. Although we don't have that kind of agreement with them (America). Best efforts will be made in this regard through any other medium or diplomatic channel.

Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Annar mysteriously disappeared the day after leaving Jhenaidhar Kaliganj for Kolkata on May 12. On the morning of May 22, the news of his murder came to light.

Police say Anar was murdered in a flat in Sanjiva Gardens, an elite residential complex in Newtown, on the outskirts of Kolkata. The body was cut into pieces to remove the signs of murder. After that it was filled with suitcases and polythene and dumped at different places.

The intelligence police arrested three people in Bangladesh on the information provided by the Indian police for their involvement in the murder. Later they were remanded for questioning.

Those three are the main perpetrators of the murder, Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Shilasti Rahman and Faisal Ali alias Saji.

During the investigation, a butcher named Jihad Howladar was arrested by the CID of West Bengal. According to the information given by him, the Kolkata Police could not find the whereabouts of Anar's body despite extensive searches in several canals and forests.

24-year-old Jihad Howladar is a resident of Khulna, Bangladesh. He entered India illegally. About two months before Anar was 'murdered', the accused brought Jihad to Kolkata from Mumbai. During interrogation, Jihad told the CID that he had done 'all the work' on Akhtaruzzaman's orders. Four more Bangladeshis helped in this work.
