The news of Sheikh Hasina embezzling money in Rooppur project is not true

Statement by Rosatom

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's embezzlement of $5 billion from the Rooppur nuclear power plant construction project has been revealed. And the name of Russia's state nuclear agency Rosatom has come up as the organization helping to embezzle this huge amount of money.

When this issue came to light, when the Russian government was asked for an explanation, the country's state agency Rosatom denied the money embezzlement.

In a message yesterday, Rosatom authorities said that Rosatom rejects the news published or circulated in the media regarding unethical financial transactions in Rooppur nuclear power project.

It further stated that Rosatom is committed to open working practices, anti-corruption policies and transparency in procurement processes in all its projects. Transparency in business processes is regularly ensured through external audits. Rosatom is also ready to go to court to protect its own reputation and interests.

It further states that the information about Rooppur project embezzlement published/circulated in the media is an attempt to tarnish the Rooppur nuclear power plant. This project is being implemented to solve the problem of electricity shortage in Bangladesh and for the welfare of the people.

Incidentally, in a report published by the Global Defense Corp on August 17, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was accused of embezzling more than 5 billion dollars from Rooppur nuclear power plant.

According to this report, Rosatom, the project implementing agency, gave Sheikh Hasina the opportunity to embezzle this money through a bank in Malaysia. It was mediated by Sheikh Hasina's son Sajib Wazed Joy and his niece Tulip Siddique.

Recently, the portal called Global Defense Corp published the report based on its own research. It was launched in 2018 and investigates corruption in the military and defense sectors of various countries.
