Today is International Women's Day

Today (March 8) is International Women's Day.

The day is celebrated every year around the world to recognize the work of women, establish equal rights between women and men, prevent violence against women, celebrate women's achievements and show respect and honor to women.

The day is also celebrated as Women's Labor Day in some countries.

This year's theme of Women's Day is 'Women's equal rights, equal opportunities, let's invest to advance.' This theme has been determined to call upon the government as well as private and socio-cultural institutions to come forward with various development projects for the development of women. Explaining the significance of the theme, the UN says 75 million more people have fallen into extreme poverty since 2020 due to the Covid pandemic and conflict.

Take decisive action to implement plans to transform the fate of more than 342 million women living on the poverty line by 2030

It is important. The theme of this year's Women's Day has been chosen to address the economic disempowerment of women.

Current global investment in preventing violence against women is also insufficient. But the right investment for women is essential for building a better future.

In a message on the occasion of Women's Day, President Md. Sahabuddin extended his best wishes and congratulations to all the women of Bangladesh and the world and said that the success of Bangladeshi women around the world today should be emulated and followed. In addition to the government, private and socio-cultural institutions should also come forward with various development projects for the development of women. I think that this year's theme of International Women's Day, 'Women's equal rights, equal opportunities, investment to advance' has been correct.

Various events are held every year on the occasion of International Women's Day by government and private initiatives. On the occasion of the day, the women's organization Nari Paksha has organized a cultural program at Rabindra Sarovar in Dhanmondi. The event titled 'Mora Akasha Kei Bhata Behin' will be held from 4:30 pm to 8 pm. Kangalini Sufia, Chirkut and many others will perform in the event.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, a discussion meeting will be held at Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday morning at 11 am on the initiative of Jatiya Nari Jot Central Committee, a subsidiary women's organization of Jasad. Afroza Haque Reena, Central Convener of National Women's Alliance will preside over the discussion.

Today Garment Sramik Oikya Forum has organized a discussion on the rights of working women. The meeting will be held at Topkhana Road own office at 3:30 PM.
