One person was shot dead in a clash between two parties in Gopalganj. Five others were injured in this incident. The incident took place on Tuesday (May 14) night in Chandradighlia Bhuiapara area of ​​Sadar Upazila.

The deceased Osikur Bhuiyan (27) is the son of Jalil Bhuiyan of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Chandradighlia village. He was a tea seller in Chandradighlia market.

According to local sources, Osikur was a supporter of the defeated chairman candidate BM Liaquat Ali in the recently concluded Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad elections. The attackers were supporters of the winning candidate Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Anichur Rahman said that Parash Biswas, son of Zakir Biswas, a supporter of BM Liaquat Ali, was standing in front of a tea shop in Chandradighlia Bhuiapara area after evening and smoking. At that time, the supporters of Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan, Kalu Bhuiyan's son Dwip Bhuiyan and Hidu Bhuiyan's son Simon Bhuiyan were smoking in front of their father and Parash Biswas had an argument. At one point Parash slapped Biswas. When Parash Biswas informed his father about this incident, the supporters of BM Liaquat Ali got organized and attacked the supporters of Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan with indigenous weapons. When a clash broke out, the supporters of Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan fired shots. Supporter of BM Liaquat Ali. 6 people including Osikur Bhuiyan, Hakim Khandkar, Mehdi Biswas and Liman Bhuiyan were shot dead. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Gopalganj General Hospital, where Osikur Bhuiyan, the duty doctor of the emergency department, was pronounced dead.
