16 units of fire service are working to control the fire at Salam Jutmill in Rupsa, Khulna. However, the fire is still not under control. The fire service said that a lot of jute was burnt in the fire. According to the mill authorities, 750 tonnes of jute products suitable for export were burnt in the mill.

Earlier, on Wednesday (April 3) at around 6 pm, a fire broke out at the jute mill located near Jabusa Chowrasta in Naihati Union No. 3 of Rupsa Upazila.

Khulna Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Director Mamun Mahmood confirmed the matter at night. However, he could not immediately tell the cause of the fire.

Eyewitnesses said that the fire spread quickly due to dry jute. Fire service members have to speed up to put out the fire. Exportable jute products were stored there. The Salam Jute Mill came into operation around 2012. Originally: Jute yarn was produced here. First, the fire broke out in warehouse number 3 of the jute mill. Later spread to different warehouses.

The mill authorities said, 750 tons of yarn produced in the mill was stocked. There are 450 workers in the mill.

The jute mill workers said that the jute mill suddenly caught fire in the afternoon. On receiving information, 14 units of fire service came and started working to control the fire. They were joined by 2 units of the Navy. The fire is still not under control. A lot of jute was burnt in the fire. It is initially believed that the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit.

Jute mill owner MMA Salam said that about 750 tons of exportable jute products, about 35 thousand maunds of raw jute and mill machinery were burnt in the fire. In all, the loss amount will exceed about 125 crore rupees. He was insured for Rs 50 crore in Continental Insurance.

Assistant Director of Fire Service Farooq Hossain Sikdar said that 16 units came from Boyra, Rupsa and Bagerhat in Khulna and started working to control the fire. The fire is still burning, the fire is not under control. A lot of jute was burnt in the fire. It is not yet known how the fire started.
