22 Jamaat activists arrested in Ashulia

Police arrested 22 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from a secret meeting in a restaurant in the industrial area of ​​Ashulia. Those arrested were shown arrested in a case last year.

On Saturday (May 25) afternoon, the arrested accused were sent to court along with other accused in a prison van. Earlier on Friday (May 24) evening, they were arrested from Food Planet Restaurant in Pallividyut area of ​​Ashulia. All of them were reportedly living on rent in Ashulia's Pallividyut and Dendabar and its surrounding areas.

According to the police, several leaders and activists were arrested during the secret meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami on the basis of secret information. After checking the detainees, it was found that they were planning sabotage. They were later shown arrested in a sabotage case on 1 August 2023.

According to the statement of the case, around 6 am on July 31, in front of Yasin Super Market in Jirabo area of ​​Ashulia, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islam and Chhatra Shibir along with leaders of Jamaat-e-Islam and Chhatra Shibir were trying to block traffic by protesting for the release of Jamaat founder Shafiqur Rahman and the demand of caretaker government. Meanwhile, they started breaking the windows of various cars. When the police reached the spot and tried to pacify them, they got angry and started pelting bricks at the police. Policemen Mazharul and Saidur were injured by the bricks thrown by them.

Meanwhile, a banner with a protest march demanding the release of Jamaat Amir Shafiqur Rahman, various parts of the exploded cocktail, some parts of broken car glass were recovered from the scene. After the incident, a case was filed against 23 other unknown accused. 22 people who were arrested yesterday in this case were arrested and sent to the court in the afternoon.

Ashulia Police Station Inspector (OC Operations) Nirmal Kumar Das said that the detainees were sent to the court showing their arrest in an earlier case. After checking the detainees, it was confirmed that they were sitting in the restaurant planning sabotage.
