After the August 5 pot change, the extortion of Greater Uttara has changed hands. The former leader of Jubo Dal, SM Jahangir, opened his forehead to the fall of the fascist government through the self-sacrifice of the students.
Already, his forces have busted 29 sectors worth about 15 crore rupees. In doing this, about 19 members of the old extortionist and Uttara Kishore gangs have joined the camp of Juba Dal leader Jahangir.
Among them are several defendants in Uttara's controversial Adnan murder case. As there is anger among the local BNP leaders, the common people of the area are also scared. It has been reported that even in the construction of new houses, ordinary house builders are suffering from the demand of subscription. The state intelligence agencies have made reports about these misdeeds of Jahangir. Charges have been filed against SM Jahangir, chief advisor, in connection with the attack on the office of a local newspaper in Uttara and the looting of goods including three computers. A complaint has also been filed in Uttara West Police Station in this regard. This information is known from government intelligence agencies and local sources.
According to intelligence and local sources, after August 5, 7/8 youth leaders trusted by SM Jahangir were used to take control of these extortions. Complaints have also been submitted to the police station and the army in the name of some of them. It is known that former president and secretary of Purba Thana Jubodal Apu Shikder and Aminul Haque have taken control of Abdullahpur transport and various bus counters. About 7 kachabazars located in government areas have been taken over by the former convener of West Thana Juba Dal, Milon alias Basti Milon and some others. In various wards of Uttara, the hands of the dirt business have changed hands in the hands of the Jubo Dal leaders in the respective wards, followers of Jahangir. In addition, more than a hundred shops have been installed on the banks of the Turag River in Abdullahpur IC Ghat and its surrounding areas. Jahangir's brother-in-law Apu and Dipu are the main controllers of the shop. His mother-in-law Hira Moni is also with him.
It has been reported that West Thana BNP leader Ajmal Huda Mithu has taken control of the liquor business of around 17 bars and some recreation clubs in Model Town Uttara area. Apart from this, the allegations against him of pro-Awami traders occupying jute shops and collecting total money are well established. Jahangir's own brother-in-law and former Chhatra League leader Dipu Sikder and Tanmoy Mamun and Kabir Group have taken control of the business of about hundred Garment A Jute located in Dakshin Khan, Uttar Khan and Turag of the capital. Jahangir has been accused of using local youth gang members to take over Uttara's footpaths. Besides, about 50 businessmen established as donors of Uttara Awami League have now emerged as Jahangir's close ones. These businessmen have provided Uttara Awami League with nearly hundred crore rupees in the last 5 years. The local Jamaat leaders were outraged by the news of their association with Jahangir. To take revenge, these businessmen are being accused in various murder cases.
People from different civil societies of Uttara have sought the intervention of BNP's city leaders and advisers in the matter of money changing hands. Specially, the operation of the joint forces is coming down from today, the local people have demanded to list the special extortionists of Uttara and bring them under the law. On the other hand, some other businessmen of Uttara complained that even after the fall of the dictatorial Awami League government, extortion did not stop, only the face of extortionists has changed. Although not openly, they are quietly collecting subscriptions. All in all, the name of SM Jahangir is coming forward as the biggest extortionist in Uttara after August 5. SM Jahangir currently has control over 500 youth gang members. Nagar Jubo Dal and BNP have received several complaints of vandalizing opposition meetings with these youth gang members.
In this regard, a senior BNP leader of Uttara said on condition of anonymity that SM Jahangir was the BNP candidate for the by-election in 2020. After the fall of the dictatorship, he became the Janata MP. Uttara extortionists from about 29 sectors joined Jahangir's march in groups to maintain their position. These people took the field for Awami League against the students a few months ago. After Sheikh Hasina left, they have now become Jahangir Saheb's soldiers. Day and night in front of his house 2/3 hundred people. They are really extortionists and take positions in processions and in front of houses to save their backs. They are not from BNP.
When asked about extortion, Deputy Police Commissioner of Uttara Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ronak Jahan told the media, 'We take immediate action if any shop blocks the road. Moreover, no one complained about extortion of transport. If complaints are received, action will be taken.
20 places have been identified by visiting different roads of Uttara on the ground and collecting donations. 9-10 spots including illegal shops occupying Rajuk's place, sidewalks and 10 spots including Antjela Paribahan, Tempo, Human Hauler or Laguna stand. Apart from this, it is known from several sources that extortion is going on in many spots. In Abdullahpur area of Uttara, at least four to five lakh taka are collected from at least four places including the fish market. Money is collected from more than three hundred autos plying on the road of Uttarkhan through the embankment, led by two persons every day. A large part of it goes into SM Jahangir's pocket. A large sum of money is raised from tempo and pavement shops in the house building area. The money collected from Azampur Footpath, Rajuk, Kacha Bazar, Duipar Auto and Tempo. Encroachment and extortion on Sonargaon township road in the name of several politicians. Now BNP leaders are taking money instead of Awami League leaders. In Rajlaxmi area, subscriptions were collected in the names of at least five leaders. Now all BNP leaders are taking. It has been alleged that the political leaders of BNP are involved in the extortion of various transports in the area. A leader named Helal Talukder of BNP is forming the committee himself after abolishing the previous committee of various shopping malls in Uttara. He is also known as a follower of Jahangir. For two days, he dissolved the Rajlakshi Market Committee and installed himself as the president and allowed people from different parties to occupy the shops. In this case, he is using the shop owners as a tool.
When asked about the complaint, the current leader of BNP and former Yuba Dal leader SM Jahangir told the media that the newspaper office was once the office of BNP. After the Awami League came to power, it was occupied and made the office of the Awami League. There was an attack and vandalism the day before yesterday. I also know that I have been involved in it. Later, the Jubo Dal leader Milon and newspaper people were called and the matter was settled.
When asked about the complaint of extortion, he said, I was in jail till the 5th. I returned home after being discharged on August 6. There is no question that I will engage in extortion or hijacking of transport. I have come up from the grassroots by doing student politics, youth politics. Conspiratorially, many people are making many complaints now. These lies are baseless.
