Doctors strike in DM, all services including emergency department closed

The doctors of Dhaka Medical College (DMH) are on a strike due to the beating of the doctors who entered the operation theater of the Dhaka Medical College (DMH) hospital due to the death of a student under treatment.

They started the strike from Sunday morning. All operations and services including the emergency department of Dhaka Medical Center have been closed due to this. Patients who come for treatment suffer.

Imran, a doctor who was attacked yesterday, said that a student of BUBT died here while undergoing treatment. Later, the students of that university beat up our three doctors without saying a word. We were even beaten from the neuro surgery ward to the director's room. Demand to the hospital authorities, we have to arrange security. We have to arrange our working environment and those who raised hands on us should be arrested and brought to justice within the next 24 hours after watching the CCTV footage.

When asked about this, Professor Shafiqul Islam, head of the department of neurosurgery, said that the incident that the students have done is very despicable. We discussed with hospital directors, doctors, army and BUBT VC and students in conference room. An inquiry committee will be formed into the incident and those who laid hands on the doctors have been asked to file a case and arrest them within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the injured in the clash between the two groups came from Khilgaon Sipahibagh area at midnight to seek treatment at Dhaka Medical. Later, another group entered the emergency department of the hospital under pressure. At that time, the authorities arrested four people and handed them over to the army.

Hospital Director Brigadier General. Asaduzzaman said that the incident that happened is very sad. I assure the doctors that I took responsibility for their safety. I have spoken to the higher echelons of the army, where the army will be deployed in the emergency department to protect the doctors. An inquiry committee will be formed in this incident and action will be taken against those responsible after viewing the CCTV footage.
