Extortion-land grabbing case against Haroon

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Harun Or Rashid, has been booked against three people. This case was filed against them on the charges of land grabbing and extortion.

A woman named Shayla Sharmin filed a case against them in Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday. Later Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed ordered Mohammadpur police station to take up the case.

In addition to Harun, the general secretary of Dhaka Udyan Cooperative Society. Badal and the owner of 'Ripon Perfumery House' Faizur Rahman Ripon have been made accused.

In the statement, Shayla Sharmin said, her mother Mumtaz Ara has been occupying a property in Nabinagar housing project 17 years ago. As all the land documents were in order, he decided to build a house there. After that, when the soil filling and piling work started, on July 10, 2020, Badal and Ripon claimed ownership of the land and stopped the construction work.

According to the complaint, the accused destroyed the signboards drawn on the land and threatened to vacate the premises. At various times Shayla harassed and threatened to kill Sharmin, her mother and family members. Unable to seize land, Badal and Ripon colluded with political and influential people to create pressure. On July 15, 2020, Shayla Sharmin and her husband were summoned to the DB office by Haroon. The defendants demanded 50 lakh rupees to release the land there. If the money is not paid, besides taking possession of the land, false cases are framed and threats of disappearance and murder are made.

Shayla Sharmin said, under the pressure of the accused, she gave 20 lakhs on August 6, 2020. However, they continued to press for stoppage of construction work and demanded more money. Later, on December 28 of that year, he was forced to pay another 5 lakhs. They used harassment and mental torture to collect extortion.

Harun, who took police service in the 20th BCS cadre, was a central member of the Bahadur-Ajay Committee of the Chhatra League in 1998. He was once fired from his job on charges of indiscipline.

Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina in the mass movement on August 5, there is no trace of Harun or Rashid.
