Neighborhood Hosts Pool Event for Dogs Only, Dubbed ‘Best Day of The Year’

The summer isn’t complete without a refreshing swim, and an outdoor pool in Colorado made sure that plenty of dogs got to enjoy it for one day before the season ends.

Dog owner Hannah Petterson couldn’t resist spoiling her golden retriever with a day in the outdoor pool for one last time this year, before it closes for the colder months. The pup, named Cannoli, loved every moment of it, as Petterson told Newsweek that she “absolutely thrived” while splashing around and swimming with other dogs.

Following the memorable day, Petterson of Denver shared footage of Cannoli living her best life with all her canine friends on TikTok (@hannlynnp). The video of what was undoubtedly the “best day of the year” has delighted social media users, amassing over 800,200 views and more than 144,600 likes in a matter of days.

Petterson said: “The pool hosted a morning and an afternoon swim where the dogs got to run around the pool, chase after balls, jump in the water, and swim around.

“They host this every day, every year, for the last day of summer before they close. Dog pool day is the absolute best, and every pool needs to do this.”

Having seen so many dogs making the most of their big day, Petterson believes there were around 75 good boys and girls in attendance. They certainly loved getting the chance to enjoy the pool without any pesky humans getting in their way.

It may come as no surprise that Cannoli relished the opportunity to have a splash in the water, as the American Kennel Club (AKC) highlights just how excellent retrievers are when it comes to swimming.

Indeed, the clue is in the name as goldens were bred to retrieve waterfowl for hunters, meaning they would gladly spend entire days diving into the water. The AKC adds that swimming and fetching are their natural pastimes for them, so a day at the pool would have been a dream end to the summer season.

Petterson has been amazed by the overwhelming response that her video has received on TikTok since she posted it. Sadly, now she and Cannoli have to wait another year before they can do it all over again.

“People loved the video I shared, and now I wish I would’ve made it longer to show more of what happened knowing that it would get this reaction,” Petterson told Newsweek.

Since going viral, the video has generated over 250 comments on TikTok as social media users hailed the adorable idea to let dogs have their special day.

One comment reads: “Oh my gosh, this so stinking cute and fun!”

Another TikTok user joked: “The only pool party I ever want to be a part of.”

“Oh, so this is what heaven looks like,” wrote another.

While another comment from Google says: “One Google Calendar invite we wouldn’t miss.”
