Rescued alive after 116 hours from the rubble

A person has been rescued alive after 116 hours from under the rubble of a building in South Africa. The provincial prime minister gave this information on Saturday.

An apartment block under construction in the southern city of George collapsed on Monday afternoon. 13 people were killed in this incident.

“This is the miracle we've all been hoping for,” provincial Premier Alan Wynd said on social media X.

“When we got to the side of the wall, we heard someone coming from inside and we stopped all heavy equipment,” Colin Diner, head of the rescue team, told reporters.

He said the rescuers then called the survivor and he responded.

'He indicated to us that his foot was trapped under a rock and we were very concerned about that for a long time,' said Colin Diener.

A few hours later the survivor was rescued and taken to hospital.
