There will be no colorful buses in Dhaka: BRTA

No Rangchata and Lakkar-Jhakkar buses will be able to ply on Dhaka roads from June 1. At the same time, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has decided to conduct an operation with the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association to stop the movement of unfit vehicles on the capital's roads.

This decision was taken in a meeting regarding the banning of unfit, air-polluting and route-permitless vehicles at the BRTA building in the capital's Banani on Tuesday (April 2).

Leaders of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association participated in this meeting under the chairmanship of BRTA Chairman Noor Mohammad Majumdar.

In the meeting, Noor Mohammad Majumdar told the transport owners that after May 31, no colored buses will be allowed to ply on the roads of Dhaka. We will campaign for it. I hope that the owners will give a beautiful bus on their own initiative. We will monitor the whole matter.

In the meeting, BRTA informed that 39 companies had 528 unfit vehicles in the capital. Of these, 257 have been fixed. However, BRTA has the urge to submit this list in complete form to the Ministry of Environment. Chairman of the organization Noor Mohammad ordered to submit the list of all buses and minibuses plying on the roads of Dhaka and the names of the owners to BRTA by May 30.

However, the bus owners have promised that 20 percent of the buses will be painted by April. They will complete the rest step by step.

In the meeting, the leaders of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association said that 3,500 buses and minibuses are now transporting passengers on the roads of Dhaka, which is less than the requirement. Now if 1 to 1500 cars are kept until they are completely fit, then the public transport crisis in the city will be severe. The owners will also suffer a financial loss of 1 to 1.5 lakh taka.

When asked about the meeting, Vice President of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Mahbubur Rahman said that the chairman sat with the owners of various buses including Dhaka Bus Owners Association. BRTA wants no unfit, broken down buses on the roads of Dhaka.

Mahbubur said, the owners have asked for time. In that context, time has been given till May 31. All buses will be fixed in the meantime. Owners Association will supervise these.

Earlier, last Sunday, Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said in a discussion meeting held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change regarding the black smoke of public transport and not keeping construction materials in open places and burning of biomass waste (garbage) to control air pollution, buses more than 20 years old should be allowed to run in the capital to prevent air pollution. will not be given

The minister ordered that the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority will send the list of 20-year-old buses plying in Dhaka city to the ministry by April 8. And the Transport Owners Association will take measures to remove the buses that are more than 20 years old by April 20. Apart from this, the old vehicles must be scrapped completely in accordance with the rules.
