Bus fare reduction notification, effective from Tuesday

The price of diesel has been reduced by 3 rupees in two phases. After analyzing the operating cost of diesel buses and mini buses, the Road Transport and Highways Department has issued a notification to reduce the fare by 3 paisa per kilometer. The notification states that the new fare will be effective from Tuesday (April 2).

On Monday (April 1), under the order of the President, the Deputy Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department. Monirul Alam signed the notification.

According to the notification, in the case of buses and minibuses plying on inter-district and long-distance routes, the road transport and highways department has fixed the maximum fare per passenger kilometer at 2 taka 15 paisa instead of 2 taka 12 paisa.

In the case of buses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong cities, the road transport and highways department has fixed the fare per passenger kilometer at 2 taka 45 paisa instead of 2 taka 42 paisa.

The road transport and highways department charges 2 taka 35 paise per passenger kilometer for both minibuses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong metropolis and buses and minibuses plying within the districts under Dhaka Transport Coordinating Authority (DTCA) (Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Manikganj and Dhaka districts). 2 taka 32 paise has been fixed in place. The minimum fares for buses and minibuses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong cities will remain at Tk 10 and Tk 8 respectively as before.

The notification further states that if BRTA reduces the number of authorized seats and re-arranges the number of seats in buses or minibuses, the fare fixed as per clause-a shall be re-fixed proportionately. In that case pro rata fare approval should be obtained from the Route Permit Approving Authority (BRTA)/Passenger and Goods Transport Committee.

This fare will not be applicable to gas powered buses or minibuses. All notifications and orders issued earlier regarding fare fixation of diesel buses and minibuses are hereby cancelled. This fare rate must be displayed in a visible place on every bus and minibus.
